Compensation Negotiation Training
Now What?
So you've had the interviews, you feel good about them, and you're confident that they're going to offer you a job. Congratulations!. Now what do you do?
Are you so grateful for the opportunity that you're just going to accept whatever they offer? How can you know what level of compensation should be expected for this type of job?
Do you have any bargaining power at all on your side? How do you respond when they ask you, "what are you expecting in compensation for this position?"
Preparation
You don't want to price yourself out of the market, but you don't want to leave money on the table either.
How can you prepare for the compensation issue. It's going to happen whether you're ready or not, so you might as well be prepared for it.
Negotiations
All too often we see people who find what they think is going to be the "perfect" job, only to experience disappointment that they were ill-prepared to negotiate for the right level of compensation.
They were either not prepared for the negotiation, or they were afraid that if they didn't just accept whatever was offered that they would eliminate themselves from consideration for the job.
Either of these situations can create those "What if..." or "If I had only said..." thoughts that can haunt you after you start the job. Fortunately, this doesn't have to happen. In fact, it's easy to avoid if you know how to do it.
